New To Beekeeping? Check out our BEGINNERS PACKAGE!

The Garden Hive Beginners Package has everything you need to start keeping bees without the strain and expense of old-fashioned Langstroth box hives.

.

We don’t include a heavy canvas bee suit because you don’t need one. Beekeeping in a Garden Hive is not so “exciting” as with other hives.

.

We don’t include harvesting equipment because you won’t need any. Raw honey in pure white comb is as good as it gets. (Or crush the comb with a kitchen spoon and strain the honey from the comb with cheesecloth if you like.)

.

What we do include is a beautiful solid cypress top bar hive, on a stand that brings your bees to a comfortable working height, with a glass window and twenty-five solid wood triangular-style top bars already primed with beeswax.

We also include a fully screened bottom with a removable bottom board, painted white so that you can keep a close eye on your bees’ primary pest, the Varroa mite. (If you live in the South or in an area plagued by small hive beetles you should consider our Pool of Doom 3-way bottom board for non-toxic control of this serious pest.) You will have two adjustable vents to help your bees cool their hive in hot weather or to act as a second entrance should you decide to divide your hive with the dividing board, also included. A glass internal feeder is included, and it comes with a second perforated lid so you can make a second feeder to swap full for the empty, making feeding a snap.

You will find a professional quality steel hive tool to remove the top bars, a soft brush to gently ease the bees away from your comb and a simple veil you can wear with your favorite broad-brimmed gardening hat. Instead of a smoker, we will send you what we call our Spritzer, an unbreakable sugar-water sprayer that will distract your bees while you are working in their hive.

You will also be provided with a special tool to use when assembling with the all-metal connectors as well as illustrated instructions for putting the larger pieces of your hive together. The bulk of the assembly is done in the shop, then “knocked down” for shipping. Finally you will receive our Garden Hive owner’s handbook which advises on hive set-up and management and introduces you to keeping bees in a modern top bar hive.

.

It’s simple, it’s attractive, it’s fun and anyone can do it.

But at the end of the day – it’s all about the bees.
